Who We Are

Who are the Friends of West Berkshire Community Hospital League of Friends

We are a charity group, formed in 1948 for the Newbury District Hospital to coincide with the NHS  Act to support the operation of the free health service known then as Newbury Hospital Helpers League. This title remained until 2004 when the Charity Commission gave permission to change the name  to West Berkshire Community Hospital League of friends  when the current building was opened. The League is run by a committee who share one main objective:

To provide funds for equipment and all aspects of comfort and care for the benefit of patients and staff throughout the Hospital. The League of Friends Committee supports the Hospital by providing funding for equipment to make the patients stay in the Hospital more comfortable.

Throughout the year, members of the League are usually busy fundraising in a variety of ways, both large and small. Sadly, our fundraising events have been restricted since the Covid pandemic but we still supplied clinical equipment and other support to the hospital.
