Success Story: Radiology

The Radiology department at the West Berkshire Hospital have worked with the League of Friends for many years. In this success story we spoke to Helen Atkins, the Radiology Co-ordinator for the hospital about how contributions from the League and how donations from patrons have made a difference to her department.

Over the past decade the League of Friends has provided a number of devices, such as ultrasound scanners, which have enabled the radiology department to grow and expand it’s service.

The latest acquisition is a DEXA scanner which measures bone density, strength and thickness. Using this scanner the radiographers will be able to assess the risk of osteoporosis. With the new DEXA scanner in West Berkshire local patients will not have to undergo a long journey to get their scan, instead visiting their local hospital many of them are already familiar with.
